  1. I have a young daughter ( 8 years old ) who has voiced a constant interest in speed skating. We live in Burlington. Is there anywhere we could come and watch an event? Do you have a way for new possible members to try out? Is there a difference between clubs and associations? Much thanks.

    • Hi there,
Thanks for you inquiry. Your request is very timely! We have a speed skating meet coming up on Monday Feb 17th at Mainway Arena in Burlington. You and your daughter are more then welcome to come out and watch the event – admission is free to the public and we will have skaters there of all ages from across Southwestern Ontario. The meet will run from 8am – 3pm, with a break for lunch around noon.

If she is interested in trying it out, that can be arranged with our coach. Just let me know, and we can arrange for a time for you to come out to one of our practice sessions. Since you live in Burlington, you would be a member of the Golden Horseshoe club, which is affiliated with the Hamilton Speed skating club. Both clubs skate together, using the same ice time and coaches.

I am the assistant coordinator of the meet on Monday, so if you can make it out, I’d be happy to speak to you then and answer any questions you may have. My own daughter started at the age of 6, and is still loving the sport, 4 years later. Pls let me know if you have any questions.

      Thanks so much,
      Karen
